Adena Middle School was awarded $2,500 through the @OSLN STEM Classroom Grant Program, funded by @Battelle. OSLN is committed to supporting 'STEM for All' by exposing traditionally underserved students to STEM exploration. The grant allows the purchase of resources from NASA, Apogee Rockets, and Estes Rockets to provide hands-on experiences through the Launching Learning project. Each student will design, build, and launch their own model rocket, studying the parts, flight phases, engines, launch set-up, safety code, and ways to chart their data. We are honored to be chosen as a recipient in the very first year of this program. Grant information and a complete list of winners can be found at https://osln.org/2022/01/151-classrooms-awarded-osln-grants/.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program is a one-to-one mentoring program that is in its first year coming into Adena Local Schools. The organizers of this program have paired some of our high school students with some of our elementary students.
The high school students that have volunteered to be a big brother or big sister were screened and paired with an elementary student with similar interests.
The elementary students in the program meet their big brother or big sister every Wednesday to have the opportunity to do variety of fun activities together.
The impact our high school students can make is more than they may realize. Our little ones look forward to this. It will also make a big impact on our high school students.
Parents interested in getting their student into the program can contact the elementary office at 740-998-5293.
